PS and just now months later I find *this* buried in a footnote of a Kent Johnson interview of David Schapiro:

Linh Dinh: “Two decades ago, I read Simone Weil intensely during a crisis period. I basically had a nervous breakdown. I read Weil and Emanuel Swedenborg and tried to join the CIA. As an accidental ascetic, I find Simone W. dangerous — but there is something about her, yeah? I’ll have to look into Howe, though. Just as soon as the most boring semester ever falls apart (it’s quickly unravelling). Wishing you well for all that grad. app. paperwork.
